Christus Health is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant I OP Draw Site/PER Diem to join our team. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the laboratory operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory staff with various tasks, including patient registration, specimen collection, and laboratory testing.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and computer systems to support testing and data management.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely test results.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including patient information and laboratory results.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory operations and patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of laboratory software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Physical ability to stand, sit, and move throughout the laboratory and patient care areas.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a well-lit, ventilated area with exposure to disagreeable odors, toxic fumes, and high noise levels.
  • Exposure to carcinogenic, hazardous, and radioactive materials; sharp needles and blades; infectious diseases; and toxic fumes.
  • Mental stress from working with infectious materials and reporting results that directly affect patient care.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to work more than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure.
  • Requires standing, sitting, stooping throughout the entire shift.
  • Work occasionally requires safe waist-high lifting and transferring of pediatric and adult patients, usually with assistance.
  • Pushing and pulling up to adult weights may be required.
  • Higher than shoulder reaching may also be required.
