Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to support academic divisions in program development, advising, and the interpretation and execution of institutional policies and procedures.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field. Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in higher education is essential, ideally within a community college environment. Experience in assisting new students in their transition to college and academic advising is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Guide students regarding academic prerequisites, career aspirations, and educational programs and pathways.
  2. Provide information on institutional policies, services, and procedures to faculty, parents, and students; maintain a thorough understanding of relevant regulations.
  3. Review academic transcripts and offer preliminary assessments of transfer credits for appropriate placement.
  4. Evaluate internal transcripts and assist students with educational planning.
  5. Gather and analyze data on diverse student populations and implement follow-up strategies, including the preparation of necessary reports.
  6. Maintain comprehensive student records and documentation of individual student interactions.
  7. Organize workshops and presentations, including professional development opportunities for the college community.
  8. Instruct students on utilizing registration and advising technologies in both individual and group settings.
  9. Develop innovative programs for advisors and students utilizing the latest technology.
  10. Make appropriate referrals to internal and external resources to support students' educational journeys.

Position-Specific Responsibilities
  1. Assist students in navigating their academic experiences through proactive planning and problem-solving.
  2. Conduct individual advising sessions through various formats including phone, virtual, or in-person.
  3. Facilitate group advising sessions and workshops, collaborating with faculty and other departments.
  4. Utilize data management systems effectively to document student interactions and inform decision-making.
  5. Monitor student progress to ensure alignment with educational goals, addressing engagement and completion.
  6. Support students in aligning their career objectives with available programs and courses.
  7. Meet with students on academic probation to assist in self-assessment and the development of success plans.
  8. Advise on course registration, academic programs, and elective choices.
  9. Identify and communicate with at-risk students to provide early interventions.
  10. Deliver career advisement and assist in planning for career goal attainment.
  11. Administer and interpret career assessments while staying informed on labor market trends.
  12. Remain knowledgeable about academic and career advising policies and procedures.
  13. Contribute to the improvement of the Academic Advisement Office and enhance the student experience.
  14. Provide feedback for program enhancements based on data and student input.
  15. Participate in departmental meetings and initiatives.
