Position Overview:
NMSU-A is in search of a dedicated and knowledgeable Academic Consultant to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role is essential in providing academic guidance to prospective, current, and former students within designated undergraduate programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive academic advisement tailored to individual student needs.
- Evaluate academic standing, respond to student inquiries, and assist in resolving academic challenges.
- Advise on curriculum modifications and aid in the creation of academic plans and schedules.
- Analyze admissions applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts to facilitate student transitions.
- Develop initiatives aimed at enhancing student recruitment and retention, including the creation of promotional materials.
- Ensure students meet admission criteria for specific programs by reviewing transcripts and evaluating transfer credits.
- Monitor student progress towards graduation, ensuring compliance with academic requirements.
- Collaborate with various departments to manage admission and graduation processes and address academic issues.
- Review academic performance each semester to determine eligibility for continued enrollment and notify students of their status.
- Provide support to faculty and staff by sharing pertinent student information and recommendations.
- Engage in administrative tasks such as scheduling, data management, and examination proctoring as needed.
- Potentially oversee junior staff and student workers, contributing to their training and development.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- No prior experience is necessary; however, familiarity with academic standards related to student probation and suspension is beneficial.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in data collection, report preparation, and effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Capable of exercising independent judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong analytical skills to assess course prerequisites and graduation requirements.
Additional Information:
- Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to participate in various student engagement events.
Work Environment:
- Typical office setting with minimal physical risk exposure.
