Facilities Maintenance Technician

GENERAL SUMMARY
This role is tasked with performing manual labor associated with the upkeep of municipal infrastructure. The individual will assist in the maintenance and repair of city-owned properties, roadways, and public spaces. Work is conducted under the general oversight of the Foreman or Crew Leader, with guidance from the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following responsibilities represent the core duties of this position but are not an exhaustive list of all tasks that may be assigned.
- Utilizes various hand tools, power tools, and mowing equipment to maintain and repair sidewalks, curbs, asphalt, concrete surfaces, and perform tree trimming.
- Engages in stormwater management and street maintenance activities, including operating heavy machinery in and around drainage areas.
- Repairs and replaces damaged traffic signs and addresses signal outages, ensuring proper traffic direction.
- Immediately reports any safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Conducts pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment, notifying supervisors of any issues and determining if repairs are necessary.
- Maintains cleanliness of work areas and ensures proper upkeep of equipment, including fuel and oil checks.
- Completes necessary documentation, including forms, work orders, and reports.
- Operates various vehicles and machinery, including dump trucks, flatbed trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, backhoes, forklifts, wood chippers, compressors, pneumatic tools, and street sweepers.
- Ensures the safety of oneself and fellow crew members by using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient in operating heavy machinery and hand tools.
- Understanding of safety protocols and PPE usage.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance practices related to road repair and compliance with relevant guidelines.
- Familiarity with GIS and mapping, with the ability to interpret maps.
- Capability to apply fundamental mathematical principles.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with supervisors, residents, and other stakeholders.
- Competence in following both oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in general road maintenance.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience are relevant.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Responsibilities may involve working on all city-owned properties, public rights-of-way, and any locations associated with city activities.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Physical Demands: This position requires prolonged standing, frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs., bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, digging, reaching, crawling, kneeling, and climbing.
- Environmental Conditions: Exposure to varying weather conditions, strong odors, noise, and other environmental factors.
- Sensory Requirements: Tasks may require the ability to perceive sounds, colors, and visual cues.
