The Sewell Family of Companies is in search of a skilled technician specializing in the repair of both manual and automatic transmissions in vehicles, adhering to dealership and manufacturer quality standards and timelines. This role necessitates specific training related to manufacturer products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Executes transmission repairs as detailed on the service order with precision and efficiency, in line with dealership and factory time benchmarks.
- Identifies the root cause of malfunctions.
- Disassembles and repairs transmission units as required.
- Inspects vehicles to assess if additional safety or service work is necessary.
- Informs the service advisor promptly if further work is needed, if outlined work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed.
- Coordinates with the parts department to secure necessary components.
- Preserves and labels parts if the job is under warranty or at the customer's request.
- Reinstalls repaired transmissions, replenishes fluids, and makes necessary adjustments.
- Conducts road tests on vehicles when necessary or refers to a test technician.
- Records work performed and recommendations on the service order.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training sessions.
- Stays updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Oversees the work of any apprentice technicians.
- Reports any machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Ensures that customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition, notifying the service advisor immediately of any changes in the vehicle's appearance or condition.
- Keeps the workshop area organized and tidy.
- Maintains accountability for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring they are returned in the same condition as received.
- Understands and complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know standards.
- Operates all tools and equipment safely.
- Reports any safety concerns to management without delay.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are preferred.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write basic correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.
To excel in this role, the individual must satisfactorily perform each job responsibility, possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, complete a drug screening, undergo a background check, and fulfill all government I-9 requirements. A combination of education, experience, and training will be considered.
