Department Overview

San Jose State University's Biology Department is seeking a pool of part-time lecturers to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biology and related fields. Job Summary

We invite applications for a pool of part-time lecturers to teach small to large lecture courses, seminars, discussions, or laboratories in biology and related fields. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and a passion for sharing their knowledge with students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biology and related fields, including anatomy, botany, ecology, evolution, genetics, insect biology, marine biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and physiology.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and assessments to promote student learning and success.
  • Use inclusive teaching practices to address the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes.
Qualifications

A Ph.D. in biology or a related field is strongly recommended, although an M.S. in biology with teaching experience may also be considered. The successful candidate will have good oral and written communication skills, a commitment to student learning, and a passion for teaching.

Compensation

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. The anticipated starting salary is $5,007 - $9,854 per month, depending on the lecturer's level of experience and qualifications.

Employment Conditions

Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role. The President may recommend or require compliance with safety measures to decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness.
