Job Summary

This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI (695) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility, and is organizationally aligned under the Medical Information Systems Division, in the Facility Access Section. The position has full authority and responsibility for the direction and operation of the Facility Access Staff in the Medical Information Systems Division of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead programs and take full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate.
  • Ensure timely clinical response to patients that potentially have an emergent or urgent care need and to serve as liaison between patients and the Medical Center staff.
  • Perform specific tasks which enables the incumbent to help patients and others solve clinical, administrative and system problems in the least intrusive, most appropriate, cost effective, and efficient manner.
  • Assign and evaluate the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met.
  • Evaluate new products, equipment, and system in order to make recommendations for improved operations.
  • Ensure necessary staffing is met, identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on hiring selections.
  • Evaluate performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must possess six (6) months experience of clerical, office, customer service or administrative other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the Medical Support Assistant.
  • Must have successfully completed one (1) year above high school.
  • Must possess one (1) year of experience that is directly related to the duties of a MSA and that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
Working Conditions

The work is primarily sedentary. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items.
