Job Summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Downtown Campus is seeking a highly skilled Senior Imaging Technologist or Imaging Technologist to join our team in the Department of Radiology. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain high-quality images used by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate MRI equipment in accordance with established techniques and routines, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Prepare patients for MRI procedures, determining technical factors and procedures appropriate for the patient's age and condition.
  • Perform MRI scans, acquiring, manipulating, storing, and imaging data to produce high-quality images.
  • Maintain all equipment by safe, cautious, and proper use, reporting malfunctions immediately.
  • Provide excellent patient care and communication, introducing yourself, taking clinical histories, and explaining the MRI exam.
  • Collaborate with physician offices, referring any problems to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records and files, completing log entries and preparing requests and information for exams.
  • Perform computer functions, including PACS, RIS, HIS, order entry, and post-processing of images.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, including contrast media and barium.
Requirements
  • Senior Imaging Technologist: Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Senior Imaging Technologist: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Imaging Technologist: Successful completion of a two-year or other approved program by the Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education.
  • Senior Imaging Technologist and Imaging Technologist: 1 year of MRI experience or MRI dedicated program.
  • Certification Requirements: Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and a current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment.
