Responsibilities and Requirements

The President of Western Michigan University will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing the university's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and values
  • Fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, supporting faculty and staff in their pursuit of excellence
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners
  • Representing the university at national and international levels, promoting its reputation and interests
  • Making key decisions, allocating resources, and overseeing budget management

To be successful in this role, the President will require:

  • A terminal degree or equivalent experience in higher education administration
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of driving growth and innovation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively
  • A deep understanding of higher education, including its challenges and opportunities
  • The ability to think strategically, make informed decisions, and allocate resources wisely

The estimated salary range for this position is between $550,000 and $700,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
