Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Unemployment Tax Representative to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring employer compliance with state and federal UI tax laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and audit accounts and activities to ensure employer compliance with state and federal UI tax laws.
  • Conduct on-site audits, follow established protocol, and document results and conduct follow-up work.
  • Determine UI tax liability for new and existing employers and individuals providing remuneration services.
  • Verify proper wages to accurately determine UI benefits and taxes.
  • Initiate actions to collect delinquent taxes and quarterly tax reports.
  • Conduct investigations and skip tracing to locate responsible parties and assets.
  • Secure bankruptcy information to protect agency interests.
  • Prepare written Liability Determination letters and perform tax enforcement actions.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of regulations and procedures related to UI employer tax requirements.
  • Quality assurance and cash management principles.
  • Generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Collections activities.
  • Strong investigative, negotiation, customer service, oral and written communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to meet goals.
  • Conduct research and audits.
  • Review and analyze financial and accounting records.
  • Collect, analyze report data.
  • Make sound recommendations.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Provide court testimony and technical assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education, experience, and/or training in business, accounting, and/or finance.
  • Experience working reviewing, analyzing, and/or processing financial transactions.
  • Experience in tax investigation and/or auditing.
  • Experience working with state and federal UI tax laws and related policies and procedures.
