The Town of Marblehead is seeking part-time civilian personnel to serve as Traffic Supervisors, responsible for managing traffic at designated school crossings. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety of school children while facilitating the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report to the assigned location at the designated time and remain until the area is clear of children.
- Familiarize yourself with the crossing location, traffic patterns, school schedules, and other relevant characteristics to ensure the safest crossing possible.
- Ensure that children use the marked crossing areas and are not in the streets when traffic is moving.
- Confirm that all vehicles have come to a complete stop before directing children across the roadway, ensuring traffic remains halted until all children have safely crossed.
- Utilize the hand-held stop sign effectively to halt traffic when necessary.
- In the event of a traffic violation, collect vehicle information and report it to the appropriate authorities without confronting the motorist.
Upon successful completion of the application process, new hires will attend an annual meeting to review their duties and responsibilities. This meeting will cover essential topics such as:
- Understanding the specific duties at assigned posts.
- Reviewing safety protocols and procedures.
- Receiving necessary equipment, including a reflective vest and stop sign.
Providing safe passage for school children through busy traffic areas is a top priority for the Marblehead Police Department. The department is committed to ensuring that capable and caring personnel are present at crosswalks and school zones.
Compensation: $21.33 per hour, with no benefits.
