Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team at Prisma Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care, education, and support to patients in our physician specialty practice setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care in an outpatient physician practice setting, maintaining an advanced knowledge base of disease entities, medications, and other treatment options specific to the medical specialty.
- Assesses and evaluates extensive health history, evaluates effectiveness of care, and makes changes according to predetermined care plan or after consultation with physician.
- Performs phone triage accurately, involving physicians when needed, and uses critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge to handle the majority of patient concerns.
- Triages current patient population and incoming referrals, prioritizing scheduling of office visits and testing, and works with physician input to determine scheduling of emergent patients.
- Identifies learning needs of patient and/or family, works with team members and community resources to develop and carry out educational plan, and modifies the process as needed to ensure educational objectives are met.
- Assists with in-office procedures, provides comfort and safety measures for patient before, during, and after the procedure, and assumes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment.
- Champions the development, implementation, and evaluation of PI projects and policies and procedures specific to the specialty area, mentors and assists new team members until they are proficient.
- Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards, guidelines, state statues, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and maintains competency through education and professional activities.
- Acts as an expert resource for and coordinates continuing education for team members and hospital staff using community resources as necessary, under the direction of the manager/nurse manager.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
- 1 year of Clinical Nursing Experience within specialty or related applicable specialty.
- Licensed to practice as a RN in South Carolina.
- Certification in specialty area preferred.
- IV insertion and maintenance experience preferred.
