Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance and Repair Specialist to join our team at Wooster City Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventative and service maintenance related to building and grounds, operating vehicles and equipment as required, and following safety practices and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain HVAC systems, lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, and similar electrical elements in school facilities.
  • Repair and maintain pipes, drains, plumbing fixtures, and waste disposal systems in school facilities.
  • Repair and maintain flooring, door frames, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements in school facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance in school facilities.
  • Examine school buildings and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Determine which repair jobs may be performed in-house and which must be performed by outside contracts and advise the Maintenance Supervisor accordingly.
  • Install and operate all lighting and electrical sound equipment in auditoriums and gymnasiums for all special theatrical, athletic, and other performance events.
  • Inspect and maintain fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers in accordance with current laws and regulations.
  • Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase and maintain an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Order materials as needed and make recommendations for supplies and equipment for purchase.
  • Maintain certificates and licenses required for the performance of job functions.
  • Lift and move supplies, materials, equipment, and other items as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training and/or experience in maintenance, repair, and/or custodial functions.
  • A current, valid Class D Operator Driver's License.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissues. They will also be required to operate vehicles and equipment under inclement weather conditions and work in extreme heat. Additionally, they may be required to use solvents, cleaning agents, and other potentially hazardous chemicals.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of plumbing, masonry, HVAC systems, laws, codes, and general maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to perform light to heavy physical labor over an extended period of time and lift and move 80 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the general public.
  • Skilled in repair techniques and procedures and the operation of hand and power tools.
