About the Diesel Mechanic Position

As a Diesel Mechanic with First Student, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing school buses to ensure vehicle readiness and safety. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections.
  • Diagnosing and performing all phases of vehicle and equipment repair, including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
  • Ensuring work orders are completed accurately.
  • Assisting with mobile emergency services.

Diesel Technician Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A valid driver's license; willingness to obtain a CDL while employed (we provide training).
  • At least 1 year of automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience or technical school education.
  • A mechanic's tool set.
  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
  • Subject to DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive employee.
