Polysomnography Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Polysomnography Technician to join our team at Children's Hospital & Medical Center. As a Polysomnography Technician, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive evaluation of sleep disorders and delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care
- Gather and analyze patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
- Implement and prepare patient/caregiver education according to the plan of care.
- Communicate education needs to patient/caregiver/staff at an understandable level and in a timely manner.
- Document patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Testing Preparation Procedures
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
- Polysomnographic Procedures
- Perform sleep studies on two patients on any given night according to accepted published standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate times to communicate with physician for direction on patient care issues.
- Follow procedural protocols, including Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), and parasomnia studies.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events.
- Polysomnographic Record Review
- Identify sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Identify clinical events, such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, and arousals, according to center-specific protocols.
- Service Management and Professional Issues
- Knowledge of and practices risk management and safety precautions.
- Charges are entered accurately and within identified time lines.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
- Education
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Experience
- Patient care experience preferred.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP), Online Self Study Modules through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine within 1 year required.
