Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Polysomnography Technician to join our team at Children's Hospital & Medical Center. As a Polysomnography Technician, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive evaluation of sleep disorders and delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Gather and analyze patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
    • Implement and prepare patient/caregiver education according to the plan of care.
    • Communicate education needs to patient/caregiver/staff at an understandable level and in a timely manner.
    • Document patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Testing Preparation Procedures
    • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
    • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
    • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Polysomnographic Procedures
    • Perform sleep studies on two patients on any given night according to accepted published standards.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate times to communicate with physician for direction on patient care issues.
    • Follow procedural protocols, including Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), and parasomnia studies.
    • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events.
  • Polysomnographic Record Review
    • Identify sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
    • Identify clinical events, such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, and arousals, according to center-specific protocols.
  • Service Management and Professional Issues
    • Knowledge of and practices risk management and safety precautions.
    • Charges are entered accurately and within identified time lines.
    • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
    • Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Experience
    • Patient care experience preferred.
    • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
    • Completion of the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP), Online Self Study Modules through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine within 1 year required.
