Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist at Memorial Regional Health is responsible for providing and implementing safe and effective patient care in a clinic setting. This role assists providers in examination and treatment of patients, ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction and care quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Record patients' current status, past medical history, vaccine status, vital statistics, and medication reconciliation in preparation for provider visit in EMR.
  • Respect patients' confidentiality and maintain discretion when discussing patient information in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Utilize department forms and documents in EMRs appropriately.
  • Collect, label, and transport specimens correctly.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques when setting up for procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency and routine equipment and procedures.
  • Collaborate with patient care planning and actively participate in education specific to patient diagnosis and needs.
  • Assist providers with special tests and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to start IVs and monitor IV fluids for correct rate.
  • Able to assess every patient for safety, medication dosage appropriateness, and other needs.
  • Accurately administer medication, perform treatment in accordance with standards of care, and translate medications into pediatric doses.
  • Able to identify victims and report abuse.
  • Maintain compliance with department, clinic, and state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Record all phone interactions with patients in the EMR.
  • Properly care for instruments, including cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing as appropriate.
  • Participate in mandatory in-services and attend staff meetings.
  • Follow MRH policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency preparedness and participate in drills.
  • Act as a resource person to other staff members.
  • Be a positive and supportive team member to staff members and other departments within the organization.
  • Participate in process improvement teams or interdepartmental efforts.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Complete workload as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Float to other clinical departments as assigned.
Special Qualifications:
  • General Surgery Specialty: Wound Certification within six months of date of hire or transfer.
  • Breath Alcohol testing and Drug screen testing require special training; only personnel who have completed training shall perform these procedures.

  • Uphold regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state, and federal regulations and policies.
  • Follow all policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public, and staff.
  • Complete annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attend departmental and organizational staff meetings or read meeting minutes.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timeframes.
  • Establish and maintain effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff, and vendors.
  • Utilize initiative; strive to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manage activity and time.
  • Actively participate in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions).
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete employee health meeting.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Unencumbered RN License - Colorado or Compact State.
  • Current BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
Experience:
  • One year clinic experience preferred.
