About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to join our team at the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child & Family Development at Wayne State University. The successful candidate will provide clinical implementation support for the Project LAUNCH (Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children's Health) initiative, promoting young child wellness in Detroit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain evidence-based early childhood mental health consultation services for community-based early childhood programs in Detroit.
  • Train Wayne State University School of Social Work infant mental health dual-title program interns on dissemination of research outcomes.
  • Provide IECMH consultation in early childhood settings at several community partner sites.
  • Support the development and sustainability of an Early Childcare Consortium, made up of local early childcare and education agencies/organizations.
  • Collect data for service modules that will train early childhood educators.
  • Develop and implement trainings for providers related to IECMH consultation best practices.
  • Manage continuing education records, collecting attendance and distributing certificates of attendance for continuing education credits.
  • Approach providers and community partners to be active in the research program.
  • Work with the MPSI-PL team to ensure culturally appropriate consultation services and equitable access to consultation support across the Detroit community.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data related to the MPSI-PL consultation and consortium programs.
  • Write reports containing demographics and satisfaction surveys from community trainings and activities related to the grant.

The Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child & Family Development has been improving the lives of children and their families for over 100 years. Founded in 1920 as the Merrill-Palmer Motherhood and Home Training School, it has served Detroit's children through research and formal academic programs in child, adolescent, and family development.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree in social work required, fully licensed in the State of Michigan preferred
  • The Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-focused Practice Promoting Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMHE) Endorsement from the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health - Infant Mental Health Specialist or Mentor (Clinical) category preferred
  • Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
  • Experience working with infants, young children, families, and caregivers in the community setting
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to implementation of IECMH services
  • Experience providing mental health consultation in the early childhood education setting
  • Experience providing supervision to IECMH learners and professionals
  • Knowledge of culturally informed practices
Working Conditions

The typical work environment will include an office and community-based environment. Will need to travel to community agencies and organizations (minimum 1-2 times per month). May require evening work hours to accommodate community/partner needs.
