Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team at CalArts Community Arts Partnership. The successful candidate will assist in teaching CAP art classes to students in grades TK-12, working closely with Lead Instructors and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in teaching CAP art classes, including setting up and breaking down equipment and supplies, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students and monitor their well-being during classes.
  • Attend pre-scheduled training sessions and meetings with Lead Instructors and/or CAP staff.
  • Log hours worked in a timely manner and respond to emails and phone calls from Lead Instructors and CAP staff in a prompt and courteous manner.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching K-12 students and excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Skills with knowledge of various art-making tools and software, depending on artform.
  • Exceptional ability to work well with and effectively relate to diverse communities of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to assess students' progress and skill levels objectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • BA or BFA degree a plus.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will be exposed to various art materials, including paint, ink, charcoal, clay, etc. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking are also expected. The ability to reach above or below shoulder level for equipment, files, or materials is necessary.
