Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is a vital member of the healthcare team, providing essential support to patients and healthcare providers in an orthopedic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic care to patients, adhering to established standards and practices.
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, and collecting specimens as needed.
  • Collect patient history, including current medications, allergies, and symptoms.
  • Document patient information in the Electronic Medical Record and relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Assist providers with various procedures and screenings.
  • Answer patient phone calls and messages, acting as a liaison between patients and providers.
  • Perform clerical duties, including filing and sending medical records.
  • Collect and handle lab specimens, adhering to infection control guidelines.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training program with documented clinical practicum hours, or Medical Assistant certification, or one year of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
