Transportation Director of Logistics Operations

As a key member of our operations team, you will play a crucial role in directing the activities associated with Delivery. This includes strategic oversight and implementation of projects, expense and revenue management, compliance with government regulations, and management of delivery staff and safety within the department.
The ideal candidate will have 7 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree is required, along with a valid Class A Commercial Driver License meeting company standards.
Key Responsibilities- Direct the daily work and safety of Delivery supervisors, routing personnel, and other associates.
- Ensure that management staff effectively manages day-to-day delivery activities, including adherence to standard operating procedures, planned routes, and customer service standards.
- Assure Delivery Associate compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, OSHA) and maintain accurate electronic logs.
- Manage labor hours, travel, fuel, and consumable supplies within budget, optimizing time and cost efficiencies.
- Prepare work schedules, including extra work days and shifts as needed.
- Oversee the proper selection, purchase, and utilization of company assets in support of the Delivery department.
- Coordinate necessary repairs with relevant departments.
- Monitor the effectiveness of daily routing activities to ensure established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and sales/customer satisfaction goals are met.
- Develop budgets, profit plans, and capital requests as required.
- Evaluate metrics and adjust activities to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Suggest efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures, and assist in implementing delivery changes.
- Review the utilization of delivery services by analyzing backhaul functions and other routing/scheduling activities to increase profitability.
- Communicate with Sales Management and Marketing Associates to resolve customer or delivery opportunities/issues.
- Visit customer locations and meet with customers to address issues and assess delivery difficulties.
- Establish and update productivity and routing software systems.
- Maintain associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings.
- Promote open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies/procedures.
- Monitor associate morale.
- Submit and respond to ideas for improving associate engagement and enablement.
- Interpret, train, and consistently enforce company policies/procedures.
- Collaborate with the Safety department to aid in training, conducting associate observations, updating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations, and routine safety inspections.
- Recommend disciplinary action/behavior modification where necessary.
- Execute management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and terminations.
- Perform duties of supervised associates and execute other related tasks as needed.
