Sign Language Access Program Manager
About the Role:We are seeking a highly skilled Sign Language Access Program Manager to join our team at the State of Washington. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in enhancing accessibility and supporting the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind communities.
Responsibilities:- Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for the Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing leadership and staff.
- Develop and implement ASL services and policies to ensure ADA compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to remove barriers and improve accessibility throughout the state.
- Act as a consultant and advisor on sign language interpretation access and digital accessibility.
- Assist with policy development, analytics, and implementation to ensure effective communication.
- A graduate from an Interpreter Training Program or a human service field bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience working as a professional interpreter.
- Maintaining the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality in line with interpreting ethics.
- Remaining neutral during translation.
- Understanding Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and hearing loss access issues and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Strong skills in information analysis and project management.
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or state-level credentials.
- Professional interpreting experience with training in power dynamics, understanding of audism, and active involvement in anti-racism efforts.
- Lived experience with the Deaf and/or deafblind community.
The estimated salary for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
About the Location:This role is based in Lacey, Washington, and requires regular travel throughout the state.
