Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Defense Finance and Accounting Service as an IT Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex software systems using Cobol and JCL coding. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our mainframe systems, and you will play a critical role in identifying alternative approaches to system design and participating in critical design reviews.

Key Responsibilities

Identify alternative approaches to system design and participate in critical design reviews to study and verify impacts on current systems.
Prepare design documents and participate in test readiness reviews and briefs technical and non-technical staff.
Train supporting analysts on the interrelationship of systems or subsystems and the detailed logic of each system.
Incumbent should have Cobol and JCL coding experience working with IBM mainframes.

Requirements

Registered for Selective Service (if applicable).
This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Qualifications

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. In addition, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11 in the federal service is required. Specialized experience is defined as experience developing, implementing, coding, testing, operating, and modifying software and automated systems using COBOL; conducting systems requirement reviews and taking necessary corrective action; applying complex IT principles and practices in the software development process.
