Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at OSSM, a multi-specialty orthopedic practice in CT. This role requires excellent administrative, clinical, and communication skills to provide exceptional patient care in a fast-paced medical office environment.


Main Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients and visitors with a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Manage phone calls, schedule appointments, and assist with patient inquiries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Verify patient insurance information and process necessary paperwork accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming reception area, ensuring a positive first impression for patients and visitors.
  • Assist with patient registration and check-in processes, ensuring seamless transitions throughout the healthcare journey.
  • Update and maintain electronic health records (EHR) accurately, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Coordinate surgical scheduling, ensuring all necessary pre-operative paperwork and clearances are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies, anticipating the needs of healthcare providers.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare room for providers, demonstrating a commitment to patient comfort and safety.
  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments, providing essential support and coordination.
  • Coordinate surgical procedures, liaising between patients, surgeons, and surgical facilities to ensure smooth and successful outcomes.
  • Schedule pre-operative consultations, tests, and appointments as required, communicating effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure all surgical authorizations, consents, and paperwork are completed accurately and on time, adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate surgical instructions and post-operative care information to patients, empowering them to take an active role in their healthcare.
  • Provide patients with instructions and information about procedures, surgeries, and treatments, fostering trust and confidence in the healthcare team.
  • Ensure patient comfort and confidentiality at all times, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and respect.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally, addressing issues in a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with surgical scheduling and understanding of surgical procedures and requirements is essential.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for success in this role.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure, adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care is essential for delivering exceptional service and outcomes.
