Job Summary & General Information
Under the general supervision of a Police Lieutenant or other management personnel, this position entails a range of responsibilities associated with safeguarding public health, safety, and welfare while enforcing relevant federal, state, and local laws. Duties include traffic regulation and enforcement, as well as executing specialized tasks in various aspects of law enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
The following tasks are typical for this role. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed tasks and/or may be required to perform additional or different tasks to meet organizational needs.
- Stay updated on criminal legislation, municipal regulations, and other essential components of law enforcement.
- Patrol designated areas to ensure visibility, observe, and deter potential criminal behavior.
- Respond to all assistance requests communicated by dispatch personnel.
- Issue citations for traffic violations and manage abandoned vehicles as necessary.
- Manage traffic incidents, assist victims, and investigate accident causes.
- Direct traffic, aid motorists, monitor school crossings, and provide escorts for various events.
- Conduct investigations into crimes, interviewing witnesses, complainants, and victims while processing crime scenes and collecting evidence for judicial purposes.
- Serve legal documents and seize evidence as required.
- Conduct surveillance on known and suspected offenders, working undercover to gather evidence and support investigations.
- Apprehend and arrest suspects and law violators when warranted, following established protocols.
- Provide testimony in court as needed.
- Investigate complaints and hazardous situations that may threaten public safety.
- Assist fire and emergency services during incidents, providing security and crowd management.
- Prepare official reports as necessary and submit them to supervisory personnel.
- Maintain uniforms, equipment, and weapons in a functional and presentable state.
- Transport individuals as required for mental health or legal purposes.
- Engage with the public, offering assistance and referring them to appropriate resources.
- Monitor for missing persons and administer first aid in emergencies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Conduct searches with trained canines to locate missing persons and assist in law enforcement activities.
- Utilize canines for detecting narcotics and other contraband.
- Ensure the well-being and training of canines through regular care and community engagement.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills related to canine handling and law enforcement.
Knowledge of:
- Police department operations and standard procedures.
- Relevant laws and regulations governing law enforcement activities.
- Modern techniques and practices in crime prevention and investigation.
- Care and operation of law enforcement equipment.
- Data collection and analysis methods.

Physical: The role requires the ability to transport items weighing up to 30 lbs, work outdoors, and perform various physical activities including lifting, reaching, and operating specialized equipment.
Vision: Must have sufficient vision to read documents and operate equipment.
Hearing: Must be able to hear within the normal audio range.
