Position Overview:
This role involves a hybrid work model, allowing for a combination of on-site and remote work. The contractor will engage primarily through virtual meetings, minimizing in-person interactions. Our client is seeking a qualified individual for a long-term Systems Engineer role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate intricate system behaviors, performance metrics, and infrastructure challenges in collaboration with application teams and vendors.
  • Act as Tier 2 and Tier 3 support to resolve critical incidents, with Tier 1 support managed by vendors.
  • Oversee server migration and refresh initiatives in partnership with application teams and vendors.
  • Work closely on server software installations and configuration adjustments with IT management and application teams.
  • Engage in disaster recovery drills, backup, and recovery discussions, as well as change board meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate with IT security, management, application teams, and vendors to address vulnerabilities in server infrastructure, with vendors handling basic OS patch management.
  • Advise on the design, deployment, and maintenance of network integration across environments in conjunction with vendors.
  • Document the network and server infrastructure thoroughly.
  • Encourage best practices throughout the network and server infrastructure.
  • Assess firewall requirements and submit change requests to vendors.
  • Review server error events and coordinate resolutions.
  • Propose and implement automation solutions for manual tasks.
  • Work closely with application teams, providing education and guidance on integration, operations, and monitoring across the infrastructure.
  • Participate in software deployment activities as required.
  • Maintain VxRail infrastructure as necessary.
  • Recommend design, deployment, and maintenance of production infrastructure and services hosted on Azure as needed.

Essential Qualifications:
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a communicative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and demands concurrently.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with distributed networks and systems.
  • Experience with Windows Group Policy Objects, firewalls, network troubleshooting, server deployment and migration, and VPN configuration.
  • Proficient in managing corporate Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware.
  • Familiarity with Azure Backup, Azure Policy, and Security Center.
  • Experience in both Windows and Linux administration.
  • Proficient in configuring and securing mission-critical production servers.
  • Experience in managing critical production incidents.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps.
