Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Safety Specialist to join our team at Valero. As a key member of our Process Safety and Risk Management group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation of our refinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of our Process Safety and Risk Management Program.
  • Provide guidance and assistance in the development and maintenance of PSM and Risk Management program elements.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate PSM-related incident investigations using Cause Map methodology and incorporating human factors analysis.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corporate PSM policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Facilitate and/or oversee process hazard analyses (PHAs) and revalidations, including California-specific requirements for safeguard protection analyses (SPAs) and Hierarchy of Hazard Controls analyses (HCAs).
  • Participate in and help steward damage mechanism reviews (DMRs).
  • Participate in and conduct audits to ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations.
  • Review ongoing program elements to ensure all changes involving MOC, Mechanical Integrity, PHAs, training, and quality assurance are complete and well-documented.
  • Ensure the effects of changes made to the refinery on the RMP Hazard Assessment are evaluated.
  • Participate in site risk evaluations (RMCs, AORs) to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
  • Utilize risk assessments to help develop action item prioritization plans and gap closure schedules.
  • Steward action item completion and gap closure plans associated with PHAs, incident investigations, audits, MOCs, and other PSM activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Engineering required.
  • Five years of engineering experience in a refinery/petrochemical environment required.
  • Process Engineering and Process Safety experience in a refinery or petrochemical environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal PSM Regulations (OSHA & EPA RMP) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of California-specific PSM Regulations (CalOSHA & CalARP) is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, Equipment, isometric, etc.) preferred.
  • Refinery unit process understanding preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.
  • All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
