Job Title: Instructional Resources Specialist

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Instructional Resources Specialist to join our Physics and Astronomy department. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and implementation of innovative physics demonstrations and instructional materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement new physics demonstrations that illustrate complex concepts in an engaging and interactive way.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to create and modify instructional materials, including lecture notes, lab manuals, and online resources.
  • Provide technical support for the setup and maintenance of physics equipment and demonstrations, ensuring that they are safe, functional, and up-to-date.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of physics equipment and materials, ensuring that they are properly stored, maintained, and accessible to faculty and students.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new teaching methods and technologies, including the use of multimedia resources and online platforms.
  • Provide training and support to faculty members on the use of new technologies and equipment, ensuring that they are comfortable and confident in their ability to integrate them into their teaching practices.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in a teaching or research laboratory environment, with a strong background in physics and instructional design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty members, students, and staff.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and a willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our faculty and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Physics or a related field.
  • Experience in instructional design and development, with a strong background in physics education.
  • Experience with multimedia resources and online platforms, including learning management systems and educational software.
