The San Antonio Botanical Garden is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Horticulture Director to lead our horticulture team and ensure the highest standards of horticultural excellence in our gardens.
This is a key leadership role that requires a strong background in horticulture, arboriculture, and botany, as well as excellent management and supervisory skills.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing horticultural staff, volunteers, and vendors, and will be able to prioritize activities and responsibilities effectively.
They will also be able to interact with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a professional manner, providing excellent customer service and developing effective working relationships.
The Horticulture Director will be responsible for planning, demonstrating, and executing all horticultural care practices, including design, planting, watering, fertilizing, and integrated pest management.
They will also be responsible for purchasing supplies and plants, providing horticultural and arboriculture training to staff and volunteers, and maintaining accurate records and creating comprehensive reports.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, or a related field, and at least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role, with 5+ years of relevant experience in the industry.
They will also possess a Texas pesticide applicators license, or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment, and a valid class 'C' Texas driver's license.
The Horticulture Director will be a key member of our team, working closely with staff from all departments to plan and implement programs and events for specialized audiences.
They will also be responsible for identifying volunteer needs to assist staff with assigned projects, and maintaining a positive and professional manner while providing excellent customer service and managing staff and volunteers.
