Position OverviewEmployment Type: Full-time Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift Role Summary:

The 7SW Unit (Surgical & General Trauma): This is a 33-bed adult inpatient surgical unit situated on the 7th floor, serving a diverse patient population that includes Trauma, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Gynecology, and Medicine. The unit operates as a semi-private facility where Registered Nurses collaborate with Patient Care Technicians. A charge RN is designated for both shifts to address immediate unit requirements and serve as a direct resource.

Key Responsibilities:
Acute nursing care encompasses various treatment and monitoring modalities, including but not limited to:
- Periodic vital signs monitoring
- Centralized telemetry
- Oxygen and glucose monitoring
- Wound care

The most prevalent diagnoses and surgical interventions include traumatic brain injuries, polytraumas, cholecystectomies, prostatectomies, joint replacements, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), urinary diversions, bowel resections, and ostomies. Standard practices involve hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting to ensure patient safety and comfort. Daily interdisciplinary planning sessions, known as WIND (What is needed for discharge) rounds, are conducted during weekdays to facilitate safe patient discharges.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma from an accredited nursing school/college is required - BSN or ADN preferred
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association accredited) required prior to employment
  • Illinois nursing license required prior to employment
  • 1 year of nursing experience preferred, but new graduates are welcome
