The State of New Hampshire is seeking a Counselor Aide and Counselor to join our team at Hampstead Hospital. As a Counselor Aide, you will provide basic direct patient care and support services to patients, developing counseling relationships under the direction of the Milieu Supervisor within a therapeutic environment in the Psychiatric Unit. As a Counselor, you will establish therapeutic relationships with assigned patients and facilitate maintaining the therapeutic environment in the Psychiatric Unit, providing progressively basic-to-complex patient care services, increasing independence with experience and skill.
Responsibilities:- Contributes to patient care and recovery by supporting skill-building and involvement in enriching, integrative therapeutic activities.
- Assists with routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, showering, and other hygiene needs, aligning them with the patient's recovery goals.
- Maintains a safe and orderly work environment to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
- Follows established individualized care and counseling plans developed by the HHRTF treatment teams that are patient-centered around resiliency and recovery.
- Receives guidance and mentoring from Counselor II and Senior Counselors in facilitating activity groups and in providing patient support and education.
- Consults and communicates appropriately with other professional treatment staff regarding various treatment interventions, psychosocial and environmental influences, the availability of community resources, and needs for transition to the community.
- Satisfactorily updates and maintains medical records and other documentation in accordance with all Joint Commission, State Licensing, and Medicare standards as applicable.
- Counselor Aide: Associate's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in counseling, human services, social science, special education, or any of the behavioral sciences professions.
- Counselor: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related behavioral science area.
- Three years of experience in mental health care or counseling in a psychiatric facility or clinical setting for Counselor Aide, and three years' experience in social work, clinical mental health counseling, or related field in a psychiatric in-patient or clinical environment for Counselor.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the assessment, treatment, and adaptation of care to meet the need of one or more of the following populations: pediatric, adolescent, special needs children and adolescents, adult.
- Preferer candidate to have a license or be eligible for licensure through reciprocity as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in New Hampshire.
