Occupational Therapy Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team at Taconic Rehabilitation and Nursing. As a COTA, you will work under the direction of an occupational therapist to conduct treatment procedures that aim to improve a patient's day-to-day functioning despite impairment or limited mobility.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents in planning care delivery.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to care for and treat residents with various needs, including orthopedics, neuro diseases, and infectious diseases.
- Attend all mandatory in-services by employee's anniversary date.
- Act appropriately under the direction of the Director of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Director.
- Record clinical documentation according to accepted regulatory, facility, and professional guidelines.
- Establish and instruct caregivers in resident-specific maintenance programs.
- Record daily treatment charges according to facility policies.
- Secure necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for residents to facilitate independence if approved by the Administrator.
- Act as a clinical preceptor, if necessary, for affiliated Occupational Therapy or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant schools.
- Comply with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Occupational Therapy.
- Provide weekly documentation for all residents on an active therapy program.
Requirements:
- New York State Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure
- CPR certification
- Physical strength to lift between 50-100lbs
- Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary
- Respect for residents' privacy and rights; display of genuine concern and empathy for the elderly
- Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness, and kindness
- Qualities of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with residents and other staff members
