Job Summary:

As an Occupational Therapist with Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists, you will play a vital role in providing patient care and implementing occupational therapy treatment plans. This position requires a master's degree or a Bachelor's degree if degreed program was grandfathered, and current certification as an Occupational Therapist. Experience with orthopedics is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Assess patient condition, establish goals, treatments, and care plan in conjunction with the physician, patient/family.

Ensure that appropriate treatment is performed in an interdisciplinary fashion, consulting with physicians about the impact of occupational therapy factors on the patient's health status.

Document findings, treatments, and other patient information for the medical record.

Educate patient/family on appropriate care and use of various therapies/exercises.

Serve as an information/education resource for patients, families, and staff.

Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and Therapy Technicians in the course of patient care.

Provide ongoing education to the Rehabilitation team.

Assist the director with patient care issues.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Participate in administrative meetings as needed.

Requirements:

Current Louisiana state license.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of physical therapy principles, standards, and applications.

Knowledge of clinic policies, procedures, regulations, safety/infection control, and quality control.

Knowledge of how to use therapy equipment.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Skill in appropriate evaluation and treatment of patients.

Skill in effectively communicating with in-house as well as external physicians and referral sources.

Skill in using a computer system/EMR to accurately reproduce all appropriate documentation.

Work Environment:

This position requires normal office environment and some travel within the community. The job holder must be able to sit and stand associated with a normal office environment, with some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard is necessary. The ability to lift 50 lbs. floor to waist is required. Demands of kneeling, squatting, overhead lifting, upper extremity motion, and strength to perform range of motion and mobilization exercises on patients are also required.

Organizational Requirements:

LOS employee handbook must be read, and acknowledgement receipt signed. OSHA Requirements and training must be adhered to. Adherence to LOS OIG Compliance Program is also required.
