POSITION SUMMARY

The Certified Scrub Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and sterile environment during surgical procedures. This position involves the meticulous preparation and management of surgical instruments and supplies as outlined by the surgical team. The individual must demonstrate a strong commitment to procedural integrity and maintain confidentiality while supporting the overarching goals of Down East Community Hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work within the operating room, adhering to strict safety protocols and standard precautions.
  • Conduct biological and chemical tests at the start of each shift, documenting results accurately.
  • Stand for extended periods and manage instruments and supplies with precision.
  • Perform accurate surgical counts of instruments and soft goods to ensure patient safety.
  • Handle and process patient specimens according to established guidelines.
  • Utilize sterilization techniques to prepare instruments and supplies for use.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring all equipment is stored properly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical instruments, including their care and usage.
  • Efficiently operate and maintain sterilization equipment.
  • Safely manage sharps and other surgical instruments.
  • Lift and maneuver equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Stay informed about departmental updates and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Exhibit reliable attendance and punctuality, adjusting schedules as necessary to meet patient needs.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures in all job functions.
  • Comply with the organization's Code of Conduct and all relevant policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned that align with departmental needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program with current ORT certification.
  • Previous experience in an operating room setting is essential.
  • BCLS certification is required.
  • Commitment to ongoing education in surgical technology.
  • Familiarity with operating room supplies and equipment is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills with hospital staff and medical professionals.
  • Availability for on-call duties as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role involves frequent lifting and physical activity, requiring stamina and manual dexterity. The position may expose the individual to bloodborne pathogens, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
