The Endoscopy Nurse operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising patient care within the nursing unit or department, adhering to established policies and procedures. This role includes supervising non-RN personnel and may involve charge nurse responsibilities, including delegating and overseeing unit activities. Flexibility to work across various nursing units may be required based on staffing and patient needs.

Responsibilities

1. Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients throughout their care journey. 2. Develop, communicate, and document a tailored care plan that addresses individual patient needs and interventions, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team. 3. Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and coordinate the care plan effectively. 4. Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, monitor patient responses, and prepare for discharge, making necessary adjustments and referrals. 5. Plan educational sessions based on the learning needs and readiness of patients and families, documenting outcomes accordingly. 6. Serve as a preceptor for new staff members. 7. Assume charge nurse duties as required. 8. Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal development as outlined in performance evaluations. 9. Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department or unit. Carry out technical procedures as needed, ensuring safety and compliance with legal standards. Provide pre-and post-procedure education with clarity and understanding. Demonstrate proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation and appropriate interventions. Exhibit skills in airway management. Understand and utilize pulse oximetry effectively. Ensure endoscopy equipment is maintained in proper working order and disinfected per established protocols. Demonstrate knowledge of endoscopy accessories and assist physicians during procedures. Exhibit familiarity with cautery and bicap technologies. Show competence in operating video system equipment. Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Proficient in computer software, including electronic patient records, and capable of conducting literature searches online for patient care.

EXPERIENCE

Recent experience in endoscopy, ambulatory surgery, or operating room settings is preferred.

LICENSURE

Valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Connecticut.

SPECIAL SKILLS

BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
