Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer I, you will play a critical role in performing a variety of technical, patient-attending, and clerical duties related to echocardiography under the technical direction of a cardiologist. Your expertise will be essential in preparing patients and equipment, obtaining and measuring echocardiogram studies, and reviewing patient medical history and clinical findings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients and equipment according to physician orders, obtaining and measuring echocardiogram studies, and recording significant functional and/or anatomical and pathological data.
  • Review patient medical history, clinical findings, and indications for testing, positioning patients in a manner conducive to achieving optimum diagnostic results.
  • Select appropriate transducer angulation and gain settings to best demonstrate anatomy and/or pathology under examination, operating equipment in M-mode, 2D, spectral Doppler, and color Doppler techniques.
  • Search for cardiac pathology, moving transducers over the heart at varying angles to record chamber dimensions, cardiac wall thickness, and motion, ejection fractions, and ratios.
  • Create permanent records of significant functional and/or anatomical and pathological data obtained, reviewing, screening, and measuring echocardiography data, and notifying cardiologists of critical abnormalities when apparent.
  • Compile, record, and collate data for cardiologist interpretation and signature, performing echocardiography studies on outpatients and inpatients according to level of expertise/experience of sonographer.
  • Maintain cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certification, functioning effectively as a performer, recorder, or circulator in Code 500 situations, examining and cleaning and maintaining ultrasound equipment regularly.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supplies, replenishing supplies as needed, scheduling patients for examinations, logging tests performed in the echo lab, coding for proper fee collection, and performing other clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Orient and train new hires in the performance of various echocardiography tests, gathering, collating, and/or analyzing echocardiology data.
Requirements:
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in adult or pediatric echocardiography, including experience or successful completion of a training program in the area of specialty, if applicable.
  • Successful completion of an accredited ultrasound/vascular technology education program specializing in echocardiography.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate or Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certificate, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers or Basic Life Support.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
