Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (PACU RN) specializing in Cardiac Catheterization Recovery is tasked with delivering exceptional post-anesthesia care to individuals recuperating from cardiac interventions. This role involves vigilant monitoring of patients' vital signs, effective pain management, and facilitating a seamless recovery experience. The PACU RN must possess robust clinical competencies, the ability to evaluate and address patient requirements, and proficient communication skills to collaborate with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Post-Procedure Patient Management:
    • Receive patients post-cardiac procedures and perform comprehensive assessments, including vital signs, ECG, and hemodynamic evaluations.
    • Administer pain relief and medications as directed.
    • Observe patients for any complications or adverse reactions, responding swiftly to emergencies.
  • Patient Evaluation and Surveillance:
    • Continuously monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the recovery phase.
    • Conduct regular assessments, including neurological evaluations, and accurately document observations.
    • Ensure patient stability prior to discharge or transfer to another care unit.
  • Patient Education and Transition Planning:
    • Inform patients and their families about post-procedural care, medication regimens, and follow-up protocols.
    • Prepare and clarify discharge instructions, ensuring patients comprehend their care strategies.
    • Collaborate with case management and other healthcare professionals to coordinate necessary follow-up care.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Engage collaboratively with the cardiac catheterization team, including physicians, technicians, and nursing staff.
    • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to guarantee continuity of care.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, ongoing education, and quality enhancement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (ADN/BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Certification and Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
    • Certification as a Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1-2 years of experience in a PACU, critical care, or cardiac care environment.
    • Prior experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or post-anesthesia care unit is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Strong clinical expertise in post-anesthesia and cardiovascular nursing.
    • Capability to assess and react to rapidly changing patient conditions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Proficiency with monitoring devices and electronic health records (EHR).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Capable of lifting and moving heavy equipment and patients.
  • Manual dexterity to handle instruments and operate medical equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and radiation.
  • Work in a high-stress, fast-paced setting.
  • Potential for on-call shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
