Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $24.13-$34.70 (Medical Technologist I) and $20.88-$30.02 (Medical Laboratory Technician). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

Job Description

This role involves performing a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of clinical activities in the UNCHCS. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate issues with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and train new employees
  • Maintain quality control and equipment in the laboratory
  • Perform routine and less standardized test procedures
  • Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confer with them regarding test results
  • Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the MT exam within 12 months of hire. Certification is required within one year of becoming exam eligible. No prior experience is necessary.

Work Details

This is a full-time evening job with 40 hours per week. The work schedule includes Monday-Friday from 13:00-21:30 and rotating Holidays/Weekends. The location is UNC Medical Center Hillsborough.
