The Nursing Assistant (NA) plays a crucial role in providing care to residents during their scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This position involves delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN).
Demonstrates knowledge of and provides age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans.
As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is responsible for adhering to infection prevention and control policies, as well as the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Assists residents with essential health care needs, including daily living tasks such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and offering psychosocial support and personal care.
Facilitates resident mobility by assisting with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment, while also providing range of motion and passive exercises.
Completes tasks related to meal preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents. Assists with meals and snacks, and provides hydration and nutritional supplements as needed.The NA supports healthcare providers and nursing staff with procedures as required. Responsible for documenting resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activities, and dietary needs. Communicates any changes in residents' conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean and functional living spaces for residents. Assists with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation. A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is preferred but not mandatory.
Prior experience as a clinical or nursing assistant in long-term care is advantageous.
Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing, or be a state-certified CNA within four months of starting the position by enrolling in a training program or obtaining certification through Endorsement.
Must satisfactorily complete annual department-specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits each year. Depending on facility requirements, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating compliance with the Sanford Driving Policy as directed by leadership.
