Position Overview

In collaboration with other service providers and clinical supervisors, the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) will offer recommendations, and coordinate and execute services for students within the KIPP Public Schools Northern California network.

This role will primarily support our educational institutions in Northern California and will report directly to the Lead Speech Language Pathologist.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience
  • Professional Certifications as mandated by ASHA through DCA.
  • Proven expertise in administering a Speech and Language program.
  • Familiarity with federal and state special education regulations and best practices.
  • Completion of relevant externships.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or Vietnamese) is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success with students from historically underserved communities.
Education

A bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution or equivalent professional training in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, the SLPA will undertake the following duties:

Individual Education Program Process
  • Provide administrative assistance in assessing the speech and language requirements of students to develop and implement effective remediation and instructional strategies.
  • Participate as a member of the IEP team, providing updates on student progress.
  • Assist in the formulation of IEPs that cater to the communication and literacy needs of students.
  • Implement diverse instructional activities to achieve individual language and speech objectives.
  • Offer progress reports on strategies for student success in relation to IEP goals and modify intervention strategies based on student performance.
  • Assist with documentation as permitted by IEP guidelines and regional standards.
Training/Communication/Support
  • Collaborate with classroom educators to provide support that enhances student success in general education settings.
  • Share insights regarding each student's abilities and challenges with the socio-educational support team and provide training to align with the student's core curriculum needs.
  • Consult with special and general education teachers, KIPP personnel, and parents to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies in promoting student communication and literacy.
  • Support and facilitate professional development initiatives for general education staff and school leaders as necessary.
  • Report on the social and educational needs of students within the speech and language program framework.
  • Develop educational programs for parents to help them understand and address their children's speech and language needs.
Interpersonal and Agency Relations / Communications
  • Regularly consult with SLPs and management regarding service delivery expectations.
  • Engage with community agencies, medical professionals, parents, and other stakeholders, acting as a liaison for students with communicative disorders.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, computerized IEP documentation, and other relevant records for state reporting and program accountability.
  • Participate in professional development activities organized by KIPP Public Schools Northern California.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
  • Physical: Ability to navigate various office and school environments, with frequent sitting and occasional lifting of equipment (1-20 lbs). Driving to multiple locations may be required.
  • Mental: Ability to manage deadlines, analyze problems, concentrate for extended periods, and perform routine calculations.
  • Environmental: Work in a school setting with frequent interruptions and distractions, requiring travel between campuses.
Classification and Calendar

This is a full-time, non-exempt position aligned with a school-based calendar.

Compensation

KIPP is dedicated to the well-being of its employees and their families, offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $83,138, commensurate with experience.
