Practical Nursing Specialist - Acute Rehabilitation Unit

This role is eligible for a substantial sign-on incentive for qualified candidates. If you are a dedicated Practical Nurse, this is your opportunity to join UPMC. Sign-On Bonus Details:

  • New Graduates (0 to less than 1 year experience) - $10,000 sign-on bonus available for LPNs with a two-year commitment to UPMC.
  • Experienced LPNs (1 or more years experience) - $12,500 sign-on bonus available for LPNs with a two-year commitment to UPMC.

About the Role:

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is a specialized 20-bed facility where we care for patients across various medical specialties. Our unit supports individuals recovering from trauma, stroke, cardiovascular issues, and organ transplants, among others. We are recognized as a Stroke Center of Excellence, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of rehabilitation care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Practical Nurse will actively participate as a vital member of the healthcare team, utilizing sound nursing judgment and clinical knowledge to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Effective communication with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals is essential, especially when patient needs exceed the LPN's scope of practice or expertise.
  • Documentation of patient care must be thorough and facilitate effective communication among caregivers, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Patient education is a critical component, as the LPN will provide essential information to patients and families to navigate their care journey.
  • Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team is necessary to establish daily goals and individualized care plans that consider the holistic needs of each patient.
  • Maintaining a positive and productive work environment is crucial, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Successful completion of a state-approved Practical Nursing Program is required, along with the ability to demonstrate the necessary skills to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Physical stamina and mobility are essential for performing duties that include walking, standing, and lifting patients.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records is necessary for effective documentation and patient management.

Licensure and Certifications:

Maintaining state licensure as a Practical Nurse is mandatory, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
