Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer/Mechanical Designer

Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer/Mechanical Designer will have strong analytical skills, a committed attention to detail, and the ability to work within a structured product development process. This hybrid role will require the ideal candidate to be onsite in our Fairport, NY office full-time for the first 2 months of employment to get acclimated to our people, process, and products. A hybrid work week can be arranged after that with expectations of being in the office 2-3 times per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product concepting and designing in CAD: plastic enclosures for motion detectors, keypads, and other intrusion products, sheet metal enclosures, simulation analysis, interference analysis, tolerance stack-up, finite element analysis, plastic optical (Fresnel) lenses and light pipes for use in intrusion motion detector products
  • Create prototypes of product designs or engineering fixtures utilizing onsite machine shop equipment or external job shops
  • Perform pre-compliance and mechanical testing on product sample builds, for example: impact analysis, drop testing, torque testing
  • Support tooling activities including: drawing updates, sample inspection, product testing, and release documentation
Requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree with 5+ years relevant experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with PTC CREO required
  • Must have experience designing and modeling complex plastic products (i.e. plastic products and parts)
  • Knowledge in optical lens design (Fresnel) and sheet metal enclosure preferred
  • Ability to collaborate across functions as part of a design team
  • Proficient at the MS suite of applications including: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to work effectively across global time zones
Preferred Qualifications
  • CREO certification - Modeling Professional, Surfacing Professional, Analysis Professional, or Associate Certification
  • Autodesk FUSION
  • Ability to operate CNC mill and manual machine shop equipment such as: mill, drill press, band saw, lathe
  • Optical design software experience
  • SAP experience and AutoCAD preferred

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 to $110,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc.
