Job Summary

Owens Community College is seeking a qualified Adjunct Faculty member to teach Astronomy and Physics courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, and managing effective instructional activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach college-level and pre-college level Physics Composition courses and Science-related courses.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, using Department-approved text(s) and following Department guidelines for course content and best practices.
  • Meet classes on all scheduled dates during the assigned semester, and hold classes for their fully allotted time.
  • Use appropriate classroom management techniques and means and methods of technology.
  • Assign grades to student work, return graded assignments in a timely manner, and maintain accurate and thorough records of student attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors, and exhibit the College Core Values of Service, Learning, Innovation, Collaboration, and Excellence.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Physics or a related field.
  • A thorough knowledge of the principles of Physics to an extent where the successful candidate would be comfortable in teaching courses from basic Physics to Calculus-based Physics.
  • Familiarity with current pedagogical strategies that enhance critical thinking with students, and ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Strong math and science skills, and ability to work within a team.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a collaborative environment, use technology to enhance instruction, and maintain a positive demeanor in the presence of students.
