The Nursing Assistant plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care on the 4 Kellogg Mood Disorder Unit at Rush University Medical Center. As a key member of the healthcare team, you will work closely with Registered Nurses to provide high-quality care to patients.
Responsibilities- Assist Registered Nurses in the delivery of patient care, prioritizing tasks based on patient needs.
- Maintain a safe and clean patient environment, adhering to unit protocols and procedures.
- Participate in the implementation of individualized plans of care, under the direction of Registered Nurses.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Accurately document patient data and care in the patient care record.
- Perform routine procedures, treatments, and specimen collections, demonstrating aseptic technique when necessary.
- Assist Registered Nurses or physicians with advanced procedures, as needed.
- Transport patients and items as required, ensuring timely and safe movement.
- Utilize technology effectively, including the telephone, patient call system, and EPIC.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and well-equipped environment, adhering to unit specifications.
- Current enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate or Masters entry-level school of nursing, with passing grades in all courses upon hire and on an annual basis.
- Completed a fundamental nursing course, including basic nursing skills such as vital signs and ADLs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
- Ability to solve simple problems and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
The Nursing Assistant must be able to walk throughout the Medical Center and stand or walk for most of the designated shift. Lifting or carrying objects weighing 35-40 pounds and supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 pounds, is also required.
