Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring proper handling, storage, and tracking.
  • Ensure patient care areas are adequately stocked with medical supplies and equipment, and that all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, ensuring they are properly gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Arrange for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services, completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
  • Under the direction of the provider, track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results, relaying information to patients regarding results and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider and as skilled competencies permit.
  • Ask prescribed screening questions, identify risks and contraindications, and observe for appropriate responses.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider and as skill competencies demonstrate competence.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, reviewing with patients and family members as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone, using this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems.
  • Return calls to patients in a timely manner, completing pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines.
  • Efficiently manage daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands, prioritizing daily patient care tasks and activities delegated by the care team.
  • Take ownership in an office function/process improvement under the direction of your supervisor, maintaining strict confidentiality of patient's health information.
  • Support the provider during the visit and patient exam by collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders, and completing post-visit patient care education and instructions.
Requirements
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support upon hire required.
  • Proficient communication skills, including SBAR technique.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team.
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record.
  • Models team work, self-motivation, and dependability.
  • Able to work independently.
