Mental Health Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Care Specialist to join our team at Wellspring Nurse Source in Bangor, Maine. As a Traveling Psychiatric RN, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, providing care to patients with mental health disorders, emotional challenges, and behavioral issues.
Key Responsibilities:- Patient Assessment and Care:
- Conduct thorough mental health assessments, considering emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning.
- Develop personalized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Regularly evaluate patient progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Administer medications, monitoring for potential side effects and documenting responses.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond promptly to psychiatric emergencies, such as suicidal thoughts, aggressive behavior, or severe anxiety.
- Employ de-escalation techniques and therapeutic interventions to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Coordinate with the crisis response team when necessary.
- Therapeutic Communication and Support:
- Build trust with patients to facilitate open communication.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to patients and their families.
- Organize group therapy sessions or educational workshops on mental health topics, if applicable.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Serve as a patient advocate, upholding their rights and needs.
- Assist with discharge planning, connecting patients with community resources or outpatient services.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure a safe environment by adhering to protocols for high-risk patients, including suicide precautions and restraint use.
- Accurately document patient care, complying with legal and ethical standards.
- Stay current on best practices in psychiatric nursing and familiarize yourself with mental health laws.
