Department Overview:

The L142, Simulation, Experimentation, and Gaming Department at MITRE is a vibrant and adaptable team focused on crafting, developing, and implementing simulation and game-based solutions to meet our sponsors' operational, engineering, and acquisition needs. We provide a variety of services, from consulting to designing and executing simulation and game-based experiments in close collaboration with our sponsors, as well as developing innovative tools or integrated engineering environments.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multidisciplinary wargaming initiatives, including defining methodologies, selecting teams, and managing execution and delivery.
  • Collaborate directly with senior leaders to identify wargaming requirements and suggest suitable methodologies (such as table-top, workshops, board games, digitized games, or computer simulations).
  • Lead engagement with sponsors throughout the wargaming process.
  • Design and create wargames across various methodologies for tactical, operational, and strategic contexts, including military and non-military domains (e.g., diplomatic, informational, economic, disaster response).
  • Facilitate and participate in pre-exercise, execution, and post-execution activities related to the specified wargaming methodologies.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree; or 7 years with a master's degree; or a PhD with 4 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, social science, or a related technical field such as statistics, physics, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, or computer science.
  • At least 5 years of experience in government or industry in relevant areas, including game design/development or simulation development.
  • Possession of an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Preferred experience in two or more of the following roles: Game Director, Game Designer, Game Developer, Game Tool Developer, Game Analyst.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and provide actionable, fact-based recommendations.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in engineering, social science, or a related technical field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience supporting government clients.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Preferred experience in three or more of the following roles: Game Director, Game Designer, Game Developer, Game Tool Developer, Game Analyst.
  • Military Wargaming Certification.
