Key Responsibilities
As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will perform components of physical therapy procedures and related tasks selected by a supervising physical therapist. You will assist physical therapists in providing services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Administer therapeutic exercises and physical therapy modalities according to the physical therapy plan of care.
- Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activity, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation, and daily living activities.
- Observe patients during treatments, assess, and compile data on patients' responses to treatments and progress, and report verbally or in writing to the physical therapist. You may also communicate updates to physicians.
- Fitting patients for, adjusting, and training patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
- Performing clerical duties.
- Promoting and supporting positive and professional customer service while interacting with clients, guests, and hospital personnel. You will work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team, other departments, and disciplines to ensure patients' and customers' needs are met in a timely manner. You will encourage the active participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and patient/family training/education.
- Providing positive and constructive feedback to enhance departmental operations. You will complete all necessary documentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review, including patient care charting, charge entry, completing peer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedules.
- Utilizing available information management systems to support departmental and hospital goals, including hospital-wide email, information announcements, policies, annual computer mandatories, charge entry, and accessing patient care-related information. Access and use of information will meet hospital and information management guidelines.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate's Degree from an approved program for Physical Therapist Assistants.
- Current Texas State Licensure (PTA).
- Basic Life Support BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Graduates eligible for licensure will be considered.
