Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Surveyor - Operations Manager to join our team at Seminole County, FL. As a key member of our survey operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the Survey Section, reviewing consultant work, and ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the work of technical personnel engaged in preparing data for County projects, including maps, survey notes, legal descriptions, and information for condemnation action.
  • Review consultants' sketches of description, boundary surveys, etc., for compliance with minimum technical standards and applicable Florida State Statutes, and Seminole County Ordinances.
  • Act as survey liaison and technical survey coordinator between Seminole County and its survey consultants.
  • Initiate and recommend hiring, termination, performance evaluation, disciplinary and commendatory actions of selected staff, as assigned.
  • Review all legal surveys and monitor all survey work to assure compliance with established procedures.
  • Certify and sign plats of legal surveys.
  • Review consultant designed major roadway design projects, right-of-way maps, and survey field notes for composition, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Seminole County acquisition requirements.
  • Review field notes and findings received from the field.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for engineering survey projects.
  • Provide quality assurance review and technical office support as necessary for Seminole County survey operations.
  • Prepare, sign, and seal surveys as necessary for Seminole County right-of-way acquisition.
  • Compute, reduce, and evaluate survey data from survey crews for accuracy and technical procedure.
  • Maintain database of all survey related drawings and field notes as required by law.
  • Research State and County records, prior survey's, Government Land Office Records, and LABINS.
  • Utilize local knowledge of existing conditions of job data for field use by field survey crews.
  • Maintain County wide Vertical and Horizontal Control Networks.
  • Prepare Plats of Survey, Maps, Sketches of Description and Design Surveys utilizing Computer Aided Drafting Programs.
  • Process digital data collected field notes into Auto-Cad Land Development Desktop Software.
Requirements
  • Completion of Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 2 year's supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A State of Florida Professional Land Surveying License is required and must be maintained.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of surveying and contract administration.
  • Ability to oversee the work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects, or assisting other units.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires the incumbent to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  • Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology that relates to administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial skills.
  • Knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Knowledge needed to operate more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.
  • Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, as well as medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
  • Ability to see (perceive color, depth, and texture), smell, hear (preferably at above average levels), and speak.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
