About the Role

As a Firmware Software Architect at Planar Systems, you will be part of a dynamic product development group that designs and develops best-in-class firmware and applications for commercial display products. You will work closely with project teams to create innovative solutions and contribute across the full product lifecycle.

We are looking for an experienced professional who can analyze, develop, and recommend design architectures in support of product goals. Your expertise in software development, particularly with embedded systems, will be crucial in delivering new products and enhancing existing offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of firmware and software applications for commercial display environments, including design, development, review, testing, documentation, and support.
  • Analyze and develop design architectures to support product goals, working closely with project teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Occasionally lead or coordinate small technical teams developing solutions of moderate complexity, providing guidance and mentorship as needed.
  • Develop and present technical training, contribute to mentoring interns or other employees, and interact with customer service, field engineers, and end users to analyze and resolve engineering-related field issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, preferably with significant embedded system experience.
Desirable Skills
  • Proficiency in Linux software development, C or C++ programming for embedded systems.
  • Experience in areas such as Linux embedded systems development, Linux driver/kernel development, design for multithreaded/multi-process/networked applications, common scripting languages like Python and bash, schematic reading, hardware diagnostic tools, display electronics development, digital video interfaces, JavaScript/TypeScript for application/web development, user interface design, cross-platform development, communication protocols, API implementation, agile/software development lifecycle methodologies, excellent organizational/verbal/written communication skills, and high-level interpersonal skills.
