Job Overview:

The Mechanical Inspector will be tasked with conducting thorough inspections of mechanical components, opto-mechanical assemblies, and tooling. This role includes training and assisting colleagues in the operation of inspection and testing equipment, as well as participating in the calibration processes of RPO's equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit strong communication, collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of mechanical components and assemblies to ensure compliance with established drawings, standards, specifications, and quality plans.
  • Perform special inspections, including First Article Inspections and evaluations related to quality, engineering, and manufacturing prototypes.
  • Oversee the calibration of test and measuring equipment, ensuring adherence to RPO and international standards.
  • Engage in product and process audits to verify compliance with applicable specifications and policies.
  • Contribute expertise during engineering, quality, and manufacturing reviews and experiments.
  • Provide effective training to personnel on the use of inspection and testing equipment, ensuring comprehension and application of training.
  • Accurately report inspection results and maintain logs and documentation as required.
  • Participate in quality planning activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Understanding of gauge system errors and proficiency in selecting appropriate measurement techniques.
  • Ability to review and interpret product documentation, including inspection reports and material certifications.
  • Competent use of hand measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to perform layout inspections using surface plates and other tools.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with optical comparators and other advanced measuring devices.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with colleagues and management.

Educational Background:

  • High School diploma or GED required; AAS or AS in engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality or mechanical inspection is essential.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2008 and/or AS9100 standards is preferred.
  • Experience in optics manufacturing and CMM inspection is advantageous.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to manufacturing conditions, including potential exposure to oils and solvents.
  • Work may involve prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
  • Safety glasses and adherence to safety protocols are mandatory.
